Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Friend,
I hope you find this letter in the pink of health. I am writing to guide you regarding the adventurous camping holiday trip.
Firstly, I am glad to know that finally you are getting chance to go on an excursion to your dream holiday trip. I am explicitly aware that we share similar hodophile personality when it comes to travelling. I highly recommend you to go to Dharmashala, in Himachal Pradesh. This place has beautiful serene picturesque, outrageous mountains and a lush green forests a perfect destination for camping adventurous activities.
But, every enjoyment comes with a few drawbacks like there could be network issues. Thus, I suggest you to carry power banks and extra sim card which works well in remote areas. Apart from it, all the basic necessities like thermal clothes, medication, first aid kit and extra cash.
I would love to join you for this camping activity, but unfortunately I have few deadlines to meet during the same period. Feel free to ask me any other information required.
Give my regards to your parents and siblings
Yours truly,
Ananya Ahuja

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, describe potential disadvantages like network issues, and clearly state your inability to join. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the disadvantages section could be expanded with more descriptive detail beyond just network issues and a list of items. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of the content is limited, which prevents it from reaching the highest band. Overall, you have successfully communicated the required information in a friendly and relevant manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'But', and 'Apart from it' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt. For example, the transition between the recommendation of the location and the discussion of drawbacks could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, and the flow of information is easy to follow throughout the letter, meeting the requirements for a coherent response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'pink of health', 'serene picturesque', and 'hodophile personality' show an attempt to use more sophisticated language. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'outrageous mountains' is not a standard collocation for describing scenery, and 'a lush green forests' contains a grammatical error regarding articles. Additionally, 'getting chance' should be 'getting a chance'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over vocabulary to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips. For instance, 'I am explicitly aware that we share similar hodophile personality' is missing an article, and 'all the basic necessities like thermal clothes... and extra cash' is a sentence fragment lacking a verb. There are also minor errors with prepositions and articles throughout the text. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear, and the grammatical mistakes do not significantly interfere with the reader's understanding of your message. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on accuracy would improve your score.
