Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Talwinder,
I am writing this letter to give you some suggestion regarding your camp vacation.
I am very happy to hear that you are going for camping. I believe you will have so much fun during your trip. You would get chance to enjoy the nature, and will feel relax while having clean and fresh air in between mountains and riverside. Moreover, you will have great experience of sunrise and sunset view.
I want to let you know you can face some difficulties during your journey, for an example it will hard for you to set your tent. Apart from that, you might have problem to do bath and cook the meals in open areas. There could be mosquitos, so I will suggest you to wear clothes which will cover your full body.
I am planning vacation as well, I will be happy to join you during your camping. We will explore more places together.
Best wishes,
Mandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly explain why camping is enjoyable, mention specific disadvantages like setting up tents and hygiene, and confirm your interest in joining the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'why'—for instance, by mentioning the mental health benefits of disconnecting from technology or the excitement of campfire cooking—to ensure the ideas are fully developed rather than just listed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Apart from that', and 'for an example' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between the disadvantages and the suggestion to wear protective clothing feels more natural. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'clean and fresh air' and 'sunrise and sunset view' are relevant. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'give you some suggestion' (should be 'suggestions') and 'do bath' (should be 'take a bath' or 'wash'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions suitable for an informal letter to a friend.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'going for camping' (should be 'going camping'), 'will feel relax' (should be 'will feel relaxed'), and 'it will hard' (should be 'it will be hard'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do affect the overall accuracy. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of adjectives versus verbs.
