Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Arjun,

I am so glad to hear that you are thinking of going to camping holiday and you asked me for advice as you going for first time in summers.

I would say its a great choice because in camping you will get a chance to explore various places. Not just this, but also you will see the beauty of nature such as chirping of birds in the morning that will soothes your mind, and creatures that blows your mind. I must say you will enjoy this camping holiday undoubtedly.

However, there are some possible disadvantages that I want to mention is you have to be very careful as there are some steep areas where you may feel hard to go on, and I advise you to wear suitable boots fro camping becase there is a chance of danger insect going into your shoes.

Also I am free this summers as I got a lay off. So, If you want I can go with you. We will experience together and make it worth.

Kind regards

Jass

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining the appeal of camping, identifying disadvantages, and confirming your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why your friend would enjoy camping is quite brief, and the mention of 'danger insects' is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more specific details or personal anecdotes, which would make the letter more engaging and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Also' to transition between ideas. While the flow is generally clear, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the referencing within sentences is tighter. For instance, the transition between the benefits of nature and the disadvantages could be smoothed out to create a more natural progression of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some descriptive language like 'chirping of birds' and 'steep areas'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'danger insect' instead of 'dangerous insects' and 'get a lay off' instead of 'am on leave' or 'have some time off'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit your score. Focusing on more precise collocations and natural phrasing will help you achieve a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and articles (e.g., 'going to camping holiday', 'that will soothes your mind', 'this summers'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'there is a chance of danger insect going into your shoes'. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and pluralization. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will significantly boost your score in this criterion.
