Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sam,

I hope you're doing amazing. I am very excited to share my opinion for your summer camp holiday and would love to share some of my ideas with personal experiences, and will also share some tips and tricks to avoid few things before commencing your journey, which I ended up doing that during my last year trip.

I am highly optimistic that you will definitely enjoy this memorable trip to your fullest happiness. It will not only allow you to explore yourself in the nature with other campers, but will also allow you to explore the culture, the calmness, and the fresh air of that environment. I believe this might sounds you even more interesting and fascinating, even before stepping out for the actual holiday.

I must inform you well in advance the disadvantages for camping under the stars, since your holiday will include an overnight stay in the tent with other members, make sure to carry some mosquito sprays as your body will be exposed to deadly insects and might put your health in jeopardy and will ruin all the fun. In addition to this, make sure you stay in touch with other participants and share your live location with the camp leader, as you might get lost during the night time when you think you might want to take a stroll alone in the dense jungle.

On brighter side, why don't we join this camping holiday together? This opportunity will give a chance to reconnect again and will have some of the best memories we can think of. I have been always wanting to go on a trip like this with you since you told me about this recent news.

I am just a call away my dear friend and will be always available to answer if you have any concerns or questions. I am looking forward to hearing from you about the confirmation of doing this trip together so we can connect again soon and can make all the preparations beforehand.

Warm Regards,

Sahil.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You explained why your friend would enjoy the trip, provided specific disadvantages (mosquitoes and safety concerns), and clearly stated your desire to join them. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, being informal yet informative. The ideas are well-developed and relevant. To reach a higher band, ensure that your introduction is more concise; currently, it is slightly wordy and repetitive, which detracts from the directness required in a letter. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the prompt well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this' and 'On the brighter side' to connect your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, and there is a tendency to use overly long, complex sentences that occasionally obscure the flow of information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using phrases like 'commencing your journey,' 'in jeopardy,' and 'dense jungle.' While the vocabulary is generally effective, there are some instances of awkward phrasing or slightly unnatural collocations, such as 'explore yourself in the nature' (should be 'immerse yourself in nature') and 'to your fullest happiness.' You attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is positive, but some word choices are slightly imprecise. Focusing on natural collocations and refining your usage of idiomatic expressions will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'this might sounds you' should be 'this might sound to you,' and 'avoid few things' should be 'avoid a few things.' Additionally, some sentences are overly long and contain minor punctuation errors or awkward phrasing that slightly impacts readability. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence structure precision will be beneficial.
