Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sam,

I hope you're doing amazing. I am very delighted to hear that you've finally made up your mind to go for the summer camping holiday. As your friend, I will share all the advices beforehand, so that you won't repeat the same mistakes that I did on my last trip.

It's a very beautiful experience to take a short-break from your workforce and step out from the hustling and bustling downtown life. I know I might sound very carefree here, but trust me you will enjoy this time by exploring the scenic views and breathing fresh air which we don't get quite often in our neighbourhood. Also, this will give you an opportunity to get to know yourself better when you're alone in your own wanderlust.

However, let me alert you well in advance about some drawbacks. First of all, I am aware of the fact that you will be tenting for a night in the dense forest. Please make sure to carry few mosquito sprays, as I believe, you don't want to spend the night by getting itchy bites. Also, let your camp leader know beforehand, if you are going to explore an unknown location which is not part of your trip. This will ensure your activity is shared with them and can manage in case of any risk or danger involved.

I have an amazing idea! Why don't we join this summer camp holiday together? We haven't gotten a chance to catch-up since you moved to a different city because of your work requirements. This will allow us to reconnect after a while, and can spend some quality time together by creating another life-long remembering journey.

Let me know your thoughts and also if you have any questions on this. I am looking forward for this amazing trip together.

Warm Regards,

Sahil H.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained why your friend would enjoy camping, provided relevant disadvantages such as mosquitoes and safety concerns, and extended a clear invitation to join the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a first-time camping experience. You have maintained a consistent and friendly position throughout the response, which fully satisfies the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a friendly conclusion. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'However', 'First of all', and 'Also' to connect your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is clear. While some transitions are standard, they are used accurately and contribute to the overall flow of the letter, making it easy for the reader to follow your train of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including phrases like 'hustling and bustling', 'wanderlust', and 'life-long remembering journey'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'share all the advices' (advice is uncountable) and 'workforce' (which usually refers to the total number of workers rather than a place of work). However, these errors do not impede communication. You show an ability to use less common vocabulary, which helps convey your message with a natural and friendly tone suitable for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I am looking forward for' (should be 'to'), 'can manage' (missing subject 'you' or 'we'), and 'by getting itchy bites' (slightly awkward phrasing). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your meaning is always clear. You show good control over punctuation and sentence construction, which allows for a fluent reading experience. The errors present are non-systematic and do not interfere with the overall clarity of your message.
