Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Ankit,

I hope you're in the pink of health! It's been ages and ages since we caught up. I am wholeheartedly thankful for asking me advice on campaing experience. I had an extremely memorable trip last year in Carleton camping site. Now, this is your time to feel that movement. You can do firewood gathering with your loved ones and cook some food on a portable barbecue. Moreover, trekking is an another amazing activity to know much more about forest life.

However, there are some rough roads while travelling so that you need a big truck to travel instead of sedan car. Since weather would be the issue in some cases, please brings some winter and rain coats in your bag.

I would be grateful if I could accompany you, but my prior work commitments coinciding with the plans. Please let me the alternative dates that works for you, I'd plan to catch up soon for an another adventure trip.

I hope you'll enjoy this trip.

Yours lovingly,

Gurdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the task. You successfully explain why camping is enjoyable, mention the need for specific equipment and transport, and clarify your availability. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To improve, you could provide more specific detail in the second bullet point; for example, instead of just mentioning 'rough roads,' you could elaborate on the experience of being close to nature or the challenges of setting up a tent. The ideas are relevant and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'However,' and 'Since,' which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'that movement' which is slightly unclear in context. The overall progression of the letter is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different requirements of the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including idiomatic expressions like 'in the pink of health' and 'ages and ages.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'campaing experience' (spelling) and 'feel that movement' (unnatural collocation). You also use 'an another,' which is grammatically incorrect as 'an' and 'another' should not be used together. Despite these slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and shows an attempt to use more sophisticated language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'thankful for asking me advice' (should be 'thanking me for asking for advice'), 'please brings' (should be 'please bring'), and 'dates that works' (should be 'dates that work'). Additionally, the sentence 'my prior work commitments coinciding with the plans' is a fragment as it lacks a main verb. While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly impede communication. Increasing your focus on subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency will help improve your score.
