Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hi Rick,

I hope you are doing great, and I am really happy to know about your first camping holiday in this summer. I would be more than excited to share some of my experience with you.

First and foremost, I know you will definitely like this camp, because you never have a experience to sleep under open dark sky with full moon. Also, it is your first summer camp you will experience open weather, sunny days and continuously blowing wind.

As it would be your unforgettable exposure, but in summers outside temperature might be higher. Moreover, some of the camping spaces too closer to wild habitats and there could be probably you could face some dangerous animals.

Lastly, thanks for your invitation to join you in this camp, unfortunately it could be impossible for me, because nowadays i am working on some tight deadline projects.

I hope you will understand.

Your love

Rakesh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and declining the invitation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why he would enjoy it is quite brief, and the description of disadvantages, while relevant, lacks depth. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more specific details or personal anecdotes. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'First and foremost', 'Also', 'Moreover', and 'Lastly'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the connection between ideas could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits and the disadvantages is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You use a range of vocabulary that is adequate for the task, such as 'unforgettable exposure' and 'wild habitats'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'open weather' and 'camping spaces too closer'. Additionally, 'a experience' is a grammatical error that also affects lexical accuracy. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to travel and nature. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'you never have a experience' (should be 'you have never had an experience'), 'in this summer' (should be 'this summer'), and 'there could be probably you could face' (which is redundant and grammatically incorrect). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but ensure you check for subject-verb agreement and article usage. Focusing on these basic errors will significantly improve your score.
