Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Aeni,
I am feeling very good after hearing that you are planning to go on summer holiday camping to Alberta from 20th May to 1st June this summer. I Feel that you should join the summer camping , where you can make new friends as well as you can not only take part in some summer activities such as river rafting , paragliding and many more but also you will get experience of making your own tent and food also which helps you to take break from your busy schedule and to be with your self.
However, there are some important things you should keep in your mind . firstly, be aware of your surroundings because there will be some unknown people so keep eye on your things like mobile phone and charger. In addition, check weather forecast everyday and according to that you can wear your clothes.
I also wants to join camping with you but I am having my final examination during that time .
I hope you will enjoy your summer vacation.
Best regards,
heli.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the benefits of camping, the disadvantages, and the availability to join. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the disadvantages are restricted to safety and weather, which could have been expanded upon to provide more depth. The response covers the requirements, but the ideas are presented in a fairly straightforward manner without significant elaboration. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations for your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'firstly', and 'in addition' to link your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between the benefits and the disadvantages is clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more varied linking words to improve the natural flow of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within the paragraphs could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'river rafting', 'paragliding', and 'weather forecast'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'I am having my final examination' (better: 'I have my final examinations') and 'to be with your self' (better: 'to have some time to yourself'). Expanding your range of collocations and idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I also wants to join' (subject-verb agreement), 'keep eye on your things' (missing article), and 'according to that you can wear your clothes' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable.
