Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Barbara,
It's always nice to hear from you, and I'm really delighted to know that you are planning to go for camping holiday this summer; therefore, I am writing to offer some useful advice so that you have a better experience.
Without a doubt, I can say that you're going to have a wonderful time in the mountains of Banff, which is located in British Columbia, and is considered as a heaven on the Earth. A mesmerizing natural beauty, and the wide variety of flora and fauna species would definitely make your vacation likely interesting and memorable. Being a nature-lover, you will get a nice opportunity to spend some quality time outside in the nature.
However, staying for few days out in the camps, could make you more prone to various harmful pests, and mosquitoes. Therefore, I highly recommend you to carry a mosquito-repellant cream along with you, and also, keep yourself aware of the surroundings, as you might encounter few wild animals while tracking.
As I will be free this summer, and you know how much I love nature, so I will most probably accompany you on the trip.
I hope to see you soon, and have a nice trip.
Warm regards,
Manphool

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained why your friend would enjoy camping, identified relevant disadvantages such as pests and wildlife, and confirmed your interest in joining the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a first-time camping holiday. To reach a higher band, ensure that your geographical references are accurate, as Banff is in Alberta, not British Columbia, though this does not significantly impede the task's communicative success.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You have used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'therefore', 'however', and 'without a doubt' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics requested in the prompt. The flow of information is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is clear. The letter follows a standard, natural structure for informal correspondence, which makes it easy for the reader to follow your train of thought.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using descriptive phrases like 'mesmerizing natural beauty' and 'flora and fauna'. There are some minor collocations issues, such as 'vacation likely interesting' (which should be 'vacation interesting') and 'go for camping holiday' (which should be 'go on a camping holiday'). However, these errors do not impede communication. You show an ability to use less common vocabulary, which is a positive feature. Focusing on more natural collocations will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'staying for few days' (missing the article 'a') and 'outside in the nature' (the 'the' is unnecessary here). Additionally, 'considered as a heaven on the Earth' is slightly awkward; 'considered a heaven on Earth' would be more natural. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and sentence construction is generally strong. The errors do not cause any confusion for the reader.
