You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Nikhil,

I hope you are having great time. I am writing this letter with regards to your upcoming vacation.

I believe you will have a great time camping. I know you are a big fan of outdoor and camping is truly stress buster activity and best way to experience nature. The location you choose is really perfect for this type of camping holiday and renowned for its flora and fauna.

This type of vacation is not without its drawbacks. You need to prepare a lot of things and make sure you do not forget any essential items for the vacation. On top of that you need to prepare all of your food by your own because there is no restaurant nearby.

I wish I could really join you. However, you know summer is always my busy season. I must keep my nose into grindstone and wait until winter before I can take holiday.

Please let me know if you have got any more questions.

Best regards

Lovejeet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping, identified specific disadvantages like the need for preparation and cooking, and clearly stated your inability to join him. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why'—for example, by mentioning specific benefits of nature or the social aspect of camping—to ensure the ideas are fully developed rather than just mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraph breaks for each point. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On top of that' and 'However' to transition between ideas. The progression of the letter is easy to follow. To improve, you could use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the referencing is more precise. For instance, in the second paragraph, 'The location you choose' could be linked more smoothly to the previous sentence to improve the flow between the general idea of camping and the specific location.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'flora and fauna' and 'stress buster activity' are good attempts at more natural language. However, there are some minor errors in collocation and word choice, such as 'having great time' (missing an article) and 'keep my nose into grindstone' (the idiom is 'keep my nose to the grindstone'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher level of precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as missing articles ('having a great time', 'take a holiday') and minor prepositional errors ('by your own' should be 'on your own'). The sentence 'I must keep my nose into grindstone' also contains a slight error in idiomatic structure. The majority of your sentences are clear, but to achieve a higher band, you should aim for more error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to articles and prepositions.
