Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Amit,

I was happy to hear that you are thinking to go on a camping holiday this summer. I am sure you will experience something amazing. It's a best activity to relax and spend some time with the nature. You can rest, go for walks and enjoy the peace in the evenings. It's best way to release the stress from the busy schedules. Camping is my stress-reliever.

Of course, there are downsides to the camping. You have to prepare your own food and carry all the basic needs which can be tiring. It can rain anytime or gets the night cold. However, it will be the memorable experience.

I would love to join your trip if our schedules match, and it would be great to spend some time together and try something new.

Please let me know the dates once it's confirmed.

See you later!

Take care.

Best regards,

Dhaval

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mention potential disadvantages like food preparation and weather, and confirm your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention that camping is a 'stress-reliever,' expanding slightly more on the specific benefits or the nature of the disadvantages would have provided a more thorough response. Overall, the task is addressed clearly and effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for the specific points, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Of course,' 'However,' and 'if,' which help the flow of ideas. The progression of the letter is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate a wider variety of linking words or phrases to connect sentences more fluidly, as some transitions feel slightly mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'memorable experience,' 'stress-reliever,' and 'busy schedules.' The language is natural and appropriate for an informal letter. There are a few minor inaccuracies, such as 'spend some time with the nature' (should be 'with nature') and 'It's a best activity' (should be 'the best activity'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise or descriptive adjectives would enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to understand. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'thinking to go' (should be 'thinking of going'), 'gets the night cold' (should be 'the nights get cold'), and 'the memorable experience' (should be 'a memorable experience'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more careful proofreading regarding articles and verb patterns. Increasing the use of varied complex structures would help improve this score.
