Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Manpreet,

I hope you are doing well. I received a message from your parents that you are planning to going on a camping for the very first time this summer vacation. Well, From my perspective, this is a best idea to spend sometime away from the close ones. There are number of things you would love to do it.

First of all, you are going to explore nature such as, forests, mountains, lakes and scenery. Furthermore, you are going to enjoy a peaceful break from your busy routine. For instance, go for a hiking, taking photographs especially sunsets, and stars. As well as, you will feel relaxed and refreshed.

On the other hand, there are some possible things that can happen which might be not good for you. As an example, unpredictable weather, some insects as they can be annoying at the night time and also there may not be proper facilities. So be prepare in advance.

However, I would really love to go with you to spend some quality time with each other and explore number of things together.

Overall, I believe it would be fun, and memorable trip for you. I hope we can meet soon.

Your's loving,

Abhijeet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping, described potential disadvantages such as unpredictable weather and lack of facilities, and clearly stated your interest in joining the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific, descriptive details about the camping experience to further develop your ideas, rather than listing them briefly. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'However' to guide the reader through your points. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition in the second paragraph could be improved by integrating the examples more naturally into the sentences rather than using 'For instance' as a sentence starter. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'unpredictable', 'refreshed', and 'scenery'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'planning to going on a camping' (should be 'planning to go camping') and 'this is a best idea' (should be 'this is a great idea'). You also use 'number of things' repeatedly, which limits the variety of your expression. To improve, try to use more precise adjectives and avoid repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly, but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'planning to going on a camping', 'go for a hiking' (should be 'go hiking'), and 'be prepare in advance' (should be 'be prepared'). There are also minor punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary comma after 'such as'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb forms after prepositions would significantly improve your accuracy.
