Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Lovepreet,

It is very exciting to know that you are planning to go camping. This is one of the most adventurous experiences of the summer trip. The exposure to the environment, wildlife and peaceful atmosphere is not only best for your physical well-being but also for your mental health. I have not experienced this incredible adventure ever in my life, but I have searched and heard from my cousins and relatives.

There could be some drawbacks of this trip, such as bears, wolves, and moose can come closer to your tent if you have eaten anything inside your tent. There is a risk of attack from them. This might be a life-threatening experience for anyone. You should be prepare for everything before you go there, like bear spray, and life saving training to deal with bear's behaviour.

I was also planning to go for camping since last summer but have not done any plan successful. So, I have finally done my camping plan with my own family. I wish we would go together but I have done my plan to go in Sudbury, ontario, canada. Which is so far from your location.

I hope you will take a look on my suggestions and awareness about the life threatening risks. I will be happy to heard back when you will be back from the camps.

Yours sincerely,

Anu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining the benefits of camping, describing potential disadvantages, and stating your availability to join. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits are mentioned, they are described in general terms. The section on disadvantages is quite specific regarding wildlife, which is good, but the final paragraph regarding your own plans is slightly repetitive and could have been more clearly linked to the invitation. Overall, the response covers the requirements well, but could benefit from more detailed personal reflection to fully meet the criteria for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' or 'Therefore' (though you could use more variety). Some transitions are a bit mechanical, such as 'There could be some drawbacks of this trip'. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, which is a key requirement for this band level.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'adventurous', 'well-being', and 'life-threatening'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'have not done any plan successful' instead of 'have not made any successful plans' and 'happy to heard back' instead of 'happy to hear back'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over verb forms and common collocations. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'You should be prepare' (should be prepared), 'I have not experienced this incredible adventure ever in my life' (word order), and 'Which is so far from your location' (fragment sentence). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of modal verbs. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you reach a higher band.
