Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Annie,
I'm writing to advise some suggestions on your first camping trip.
Your camping will start in early morning from 8 am and ends at 6 pm, and you are responsible to bring your own food. Here you would have to climb a mountainous region and will see some crystal clear river streams, different species of birds and breathtaking sceneries of nature that will force you to stop and witness. This will enough to feel refresh and rejuvenated.
A common problem that most people feel is a difficulty in breathing, as you climb upwards the proportion of oxygen in atmosphere would become thinner. This makes climbing difficult, but people with obesity might feel it more challenging, so I would recommend you to take a rest in between few distances to overcome this problem.
Unfortunately, I have committed a family lunch on that day, so I wouldn't able to catch this chance, but you can enjoy this event without me. There you would find many people as camping is one the best recreational activity to do, so many individuals will participate in it.
I feel regret that I cannot accompanied you that day, but in future I will join you for next adventure.
All the best,
John.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained why your friend would enjoy the trip, identified potential disadvantages (breathing difficulties/physical exertion), and clearly stated that you cannot join. However, the response feels slightly disjointed because you describe a specific, scheduled day trip (8 am to 6 pm) rather than a 'camping holiday,' which usually implies staying overnight. This makes the content feel slightly off-topic regarding the nature of the activity. To improve, ensure your ideas align more closely with the common understanding of the task topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Unfortunately' and 'but,' which help connect your thoughts. However, the transition between the description of the trip and the disadvantages is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'This will enough to feel refresh,' where the subject is missing. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the flow and logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using descriptive phrases like 'crystal clear river streams' and 'breathtaking sceneries.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'advise some suggestions' (instead of 'make some suggestions'), 'committed a family lunch' (instead of 'have a family commitment'), and 'recreational activity to do' (which is redundant). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they do limit the precision of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include 'This will enough to feel refresh' (missing verb 'be' and incorrect form 'refresh' instead of 'refreshed'), 'I wouldn't able to' (missing 'be'), and 'I cannot accompanied you' (incorrect verb form). While your meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic verb patterns and sentence construction prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and auxiliary verb usage will help.
