Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Pardeep,

I hope you are doing well.

I am pleased to know that you are going on summer camping for the first time.

Summer camping is one of the favorite activities of mine. Last year, I went to summer camp with my colleagues. We went to lakeshore area of the Burlington city. I am pretty sure that you would love this trip as I know that you are nature lover person. According to my personal experience, nights are more joyful than days because sleeping under stars helps to relax mind and body.

In addition, there are some drawbacks associated with this vacation plan.

One of main problems is weather please check forecast before going.

Another issue related to this is tent kindly buy a good quality of tent avoid transparent ones.

Make sure you are taking a extra pair of shoes.

While keeping some safety and extra cautions during trip make it more confident and memorable.

I would love to inform you that I was also planning to go for camping.

Would you mind if I ask you that we should go together as we are planning for get together for long time.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Love,

Pardeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and proposing a joint trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the disadvantages are presented as a list of brief instructions rather than a descriptive explanation. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detail and personal anecdotes. For instance, instead of just mentioning the weather, you could explain how unpredictable weather can ruin a camping experience. The content is relevant, but the depth of the response could be improved to better engage the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'One of main problems'. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally choppy, particularly in the second paragraph where the advice is presented as a series of short, disconnected commands. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. To improve, try to use more varied linking words and ensure that your sentences flow more naturally into one another to create a smoother narrative throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'nature lover', 'joyful', and 'memorable'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'summer camping' instead of 'a camping trip', and 'nature lover person' which is redundant. You also use 'get together' as a noun phrase, which is slightly informal but acceptable in this context. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives and idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the Burlington city', 'a extra pair'), incorrect preposition usage, and issues with sentence fragments ('One of main problems is weather please check forecast'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of commas and full stops. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading your work to ensure that each sentence is complete and grammatically sound will significantly improve your score.
