Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Raman,

I hope you are doing well. Its been ages to meet with each other and I am very happy you seek advise from me for your camping holiday.

As I already know, you have keen interest in doing challenging activities so I think you should have to go Jaipur because there are a plethora of spots where you can do thrill sports such paragliding, bungii jumping and explore various tourist attraction like Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and many more.

The only thing that is bothering you over there the weather. Nobody knows when it will start raining and your all plan will destroyed. Secondly, the accamodation is quite expensive in contrast to other places.

I think you would like to go camping with your friend with this you can get opportunity to experience something new in their hectic schedule and also you will spend quality time with your peers and make new memories.

If you need any further assistance please let me know.

Best regards,

Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mention disadvantages like weather and cost, and express your interest in joining. However, there is a significant issue with task relevance: the prompt asks for advice on a 'camping holiday,' but your response focuses entirely on a city trip to Jaipur, mentioning 'thrill sports' and 'tourist attractions' rather than camping activities. This misunderstanding of the core topic limits the development of your ideas. To improve, ensure you carefully read the prompt to distinguish between general travel advice and the specific activity requested.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'As I already know,' 'The only thing,' and 'Secondly.' However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the flow is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors. For example, the final paragraph is slightly confusing because it is unclear if you are inviting yourself or suggesting your friend go with someone else. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that your referencing (e.g., 'their hectic schedule') is clear would improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'keen interest,' 'plethora of spots,' and 'hectic schedule.' However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'advise' (should be 'advice'), 'bungii' (bungee), and 'accamodation' (accommodation). Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'your all plan will destroyed.' While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you need to focus on accurate spelling and more precise collocations to reach a higher band score. Proofreading your work for common spelling mistakes would be a very effective way to improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, 'Its been ages to meet with each other' should be 'It has been ages since we met,' and 'you should have to go' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with verb tense and subject-verb agreement, such as 'your all plan will destroyed.' While your meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more practice with basic sentence construction, verb forms, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
