Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Arti,

I hope you are doing well. You told me that you are going on a camping holiday for the first time this summer. You asked me for a few pieces of advice, and I am comfortable sharing some with you.

I am positive that you will like this camping holiday because you love nature and adventure. Being in the camp can also reduce your work stress and the daily city hectic routine. As there are no telephone networks, you will explore new ways of having fun with your friends and go on some adventures. You mentioned once that you like stargazing, and the sky is clear in the camping areas, as it is usually away from the city, You can do that from inside your tent.

There are some possible disadvantages. You should bring enough food and water with you, as the camping site mostly has open facilities for washrooms, but not for food or water. There will be mosquitoes because it is a forest area; bug spray can be your friend. Also bring personal items because the shop may or may not be there. It is best if you have a blanket because at night it can get cold.

I really wish if i could join you so that we can make good memories together. If you agree, I can make arrangements from work and join you for this summer camp.

Yours lovingly

Ateksha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained why your friend would enjoy camping, provided practical disadvantages, and expressed your interest in joining them. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are well-developed and relevant. You have maintained a consistent and friendly persona throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific examples or personal anecdotes to further flesh out your points, but overall, the task is fully accomplished.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and a closing. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you use basic cohesive devices like 'Also', 'As', and 'If you agree' effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. To improve, you could incorporate a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to make the flow between sentences feel more sophisticated and less mechanical, which would help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'daily city hectic routine' and 'make good memories' are natural and appropriate. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'Being in the camp' (which should be 'Camping' or 'Being at the campsite') and 'open facilities for washrooms' (which is slightly awkward). While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise or idiomatic expressions would demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'I really wish if i could join you' (the 'if' is redundant) and the capitalization error 'i'. Additionally, 'the camping site mostly has open facilities' is slightly imprecise. Despite these occasional errors, your grammar does not impede communication, and you show a solid grasp of sentence construction. Focusing on proofreading for small errors like subject-verb agreement and capitalization will help you improve.
