Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear param

I hope you are doing well , it has been long time since we met . However, I really liked your idea about going for camping in this vacation as it will be something different than our regular summer plans.

Additionally , I would suggest you to go to whistler for camping as there is a place called Shannon falls which is famous for campers and it provides some facilities as well . However, the views from that falls are so specular that it will help you to relax and rejuvenate .

Therefore, there are few things I want you to be careful about is bear attacks as in that area is famous for it , so keep a pepper spray with you . Additionally , keep extra food and water for emergency situations .

Moreover, I really want to join you for this camp visit but unfortunately my elder brother is coming from abroad this weekend and I have to go to receive him from airport but I will definitely join you next time .

Hoping you have good time with your friends

yours truly

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the task. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, describe potential disadvantages (bear attacks and the need for supplies), and clearly state that you cannot join them. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To improve, you could expand slightly on the 'why'—for example, mentioning the benefits of disconnecting from technology or the joy of being in nature—to provide more depth to your ideas. Overall, the task requirements are fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, some of these transitions are used slightly mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'Therefore' is used to introduce a warning, which is not a logical consequence of the previous paragraph). Improving the variety and natural flow of these linking words would help the text progress more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Words like 'rejuvenate' and 'emergency' are well-chosen. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'specular' (likely meaning 'spectacular') and 'camp visit' (a more natural phrase would be 'camping trip'). While these errors do not impede communication, using more precise vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling would elevate your score. You have a good foundation for informal correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'it has been long time' (missing article 'a'), 'go to whistler' (needs capitalization), and 'in that area is famous for it' (redundant subject). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces appearing before commas. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation.
