Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sarbjot,

I hope you are in radiant health and best of spirits. I am very glad when i read your text that you are planning to go on camping this summer vacation. According to my personal opinion Kawartha lakes are the best place for camping in summer.

I know you are very tired from your daily routine of work and you want to spend your free time from the hustle bustle of life. I hope you will enjoy this place which is far from the city life which give you peace and relaxation.

However, you might be suffer from some problems over there because in summer time there are mosquitoes and raccones are available . You must be aware from these animals and insects otherwise the environment is very peaceful.

I am really appreciate you asked me about this camping . I am also very curious to go with you but i have to go India for my business meeting . I hope you will enjoy this camping holiday with your family.

See you next month with warmth smile.

Your lovingly,

Amanjot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing potential disadvantages, and stating your availability to join. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that camping provides peace and relaxation, you could have expanded on this by describing specific activities like hiking or stargazing. Similarly, the disadvantages are mentioned briefly. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully developed with more descriptive detail and personal context, which would make the letter more engaging and meet the requirements of a more comprehensive response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'otherwise' to connect ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the progression of ideas feels a bit abrupt. For example, the transition between the benefits of camping and the disadvantages could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'I am really appreciate you asked me about this camping'. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents will help improve the overall flow and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'radiant health', 'hustle bustle', and 'best of spirits'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'go on camping' (should be 'go camping'), 'aware from' (should be 'aware of'), and 'I am really appreciate' (should be 'I really appreciate'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and prepositions. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and practicing the correct usage of verbs and adjectives in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am very glad when i read' (tense inconsistency), 'which give you peace' (subject-verb agreement error), 'you might be suffer' (incorrect modal structure), and 'I have to go India' (missing preposition). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message. To achieve a higher band, you need to focus on consistent verb tense usage, correct subject-verb agreement, and the accurate use of prepositions. Proofreading your work for these common slips will significantly improve your accuracy.
