Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sarah,
I hope you are fine. Its been a long time that I last heard from you. I am pretty good despite being very busy with work. I am writing to give you an advice that you asked me about comping holiday.
First of all, I would really appreciate that you decided to go on holiday camping. Undoubtedly, it is a great decision and you will definitely enjoy a variety of activities on camping such as boating, horse ridding, hiking that makes your trip memorable.
However, there are some precautions that you must taken before you leave for this camping. Firstly, you must apply sunscreen to prevent your body from sunburn. Secondly, drink a plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Lastly, donot forget to wear sunglasses and hat otherwise, you will face severe headache due to heat waves.
In the end I would like to share with you that I applied for holidays in my office and I get approval on it. So, I am also joining you at this moment. Definitely, it would be a great experience for both of us and I am sure we will have fun and frolic at that place.
Give my regards to your parents. I am looking forward to see you on camping.
Thank you
Lots of Love

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping, provided some precautions (which function as disadvantages/challenges), and confirmed your attendance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the second bullet point asks for 'disadvantages' of camping, but you provided 'precautions' or safety advice instead. While these are related, a more direct response would have been to discuss potential downsides like lack of facilities, unpredictable weather, or the physical effort required. To improve, ensure you address the specific focus of each bullet point more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'However', 'Firstly', and 'In the end' to guide the reader. While the structure is coherent, some of the transitions are a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the letter maintains a consistent focus throughout. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between the 'disadvantages' section and the rest of the letter is smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'memorable', 'precautions', and 'hydrated' are used correctly. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'give you an advice' (advice is uncountable) and 'fun and frolic' (which is an idiomatic expression that sounds slightly unnatural in this context). You also have some spelling errors like 'ridding' instead of 'riding' and 'donot' instead of 'do not'. Focusing on collocations and uncountable noun usage will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'Its been a long time that I last heard' (It has been a long time since), 'must taken' (must take), and 'I get approval' (I got approval). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tense consistency and modal verb structures. Increasing the variety of complex sentence forms while ensuring accuracy will help you move up to a higher band.
