Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Jinal,
I am writing this letter in connection with your recent interest for camping holidays in upcoming summer. Since it will be your first camping holiday, you will get a worthwhile experience of life which you will remember for forever. While I know you enjoy the group activities, it will be really exiting moment for you and suits your personality.
However, camping in summer bring some disadvantages with it. For instance you are allergic to heat which can be detrimental to you specifically in summer. To deal with this issue, I can bring my portable cooler which will be helpful in our camp.
I know one of the campers group which is going for camping holidays every summer. Last time I went with them and it was a really fun experience. Since I have an experience of last year camping, I am thinking to join with you this summer too. I will not only give you a compony, I will also provide you a detailed guide while being with you on this trip.
Yours lovely,
Harsh Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and confirming your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed. For instance, while you mention your friend is allergic to heat, you could have expanded more on the general disadvantages of camping, such as the lack of amenities or unpredictable weather, to provide a more balanced view. The response is clear and the purpose is well-maintained throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For instance', and 'Since', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'I know one of the campers group', which is slightly awkward. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics requested in the task instructions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'detrimental', 'portable cooler', and 'worthwhile experience'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'exiting moment' (likely meant 'exciting'), 'compony' (spelling error for 'company'), and 'join with you' (should be 'join you'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and common collocations to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'interest for camping' (should be 'interest in'), 'bring some disadvantages' (should be 'brings'), and 'I know one of the campers group' (should be 'I know a group of campers'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles and prepositions throughout the text. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage would be beneficial.
