Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Jevin,
I writing this letter because I have came to know that you are planning a campaign trip to the Banff national park with some of our common friends.
Firstly, I am Impressed with your decision for such a trip, the reason is that I know you enjoys this kind of adventures. Additionally, Banff is such a beautiful location for such a trip because it has enormously large mountains and clyster clear lakes that offers mesmerizing views.
However, I would like to inform you for some possible drawbacks of such a trip. To begin with, climate can be challenging to such location as temperature may drop suddenly, so do not forget protective wears. Also, insects can be one more reason to be careful about, so also carry the all insect spray with you.
Apparently, my summer internship has been cancelled due to some issues. So, If it is possible for you I would like to join you for this trip. I have some campaign gears which can be absolute useful.
Thank you for your consideration and waiting for your response!
kind regards,
Akash

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping, provided relevant disadvantages such as weather and insects, and clearly stated your desire to join the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure you expand slightly more on your ideas; for example, when mentioning the mountains, you could briefly explain how the physical activity of hiking contributes to the enjoyment of the trip. Overall, the task is fully covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'However', and 'To begin with' to guide the reader through your points. While the progression is generally smooth, some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition 'Also' is used twice in the same paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'such a trip') is used more naturally would enhance the flow and help you achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using descriptive terms like 'mesmerizing views' and 'challenging'. However, there are several word-choice errors and spelling mistakes that slightly hinder the precision of your writing. For example, you used 'campaign' instead of 'camping' throughout the letter, and 'clyster' instead of 'crystal'. Additionally, 'protective wears' should be 'protective clothing' or 'gear'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of common collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I writing this letter' (should be 'I am writing'), 'I have came to know' (should be 'I have come to know'), and 'you enjoys' (should be 'you enjoy'). There are also issues with preposition usage, such as 'inform you for' instead of 'inform you of'. While these errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, they rarely impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage.
