Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sam,
I hope this letter finds you in radiant health.I am very happy that you are planning for camping holiday, it will be going to a great experience. And I am writing this letter to suggest you the things should be taken care while camping.
Almost all the camping sites have couple of hiking tracks or even some of them have many long and short tracks. As you love adventures activities and hiking, you will enjoy the day. Additionally, you might encounter wild animals which will give you a thrill but you have to be cautious around them. The hard part of this kind of vacation is that you have carry everything from cooking utensils to sleeping tents which can be challenging if you do not how to make tent. Other than that you can not eat inside the tent or stay area otherwise bear can smell and harm you during night.
This summer I have to be at home because my brother is visiting me and that is the reason I won't be joining our group. I am sure that you guys will difinetly have great time there.
Yours lovingly,
Pam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing the disadvantages, and stating your availability. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the need to carry equipment, you could have expanded more on the physical effort involved or the specific types of gear. The advice provided is relevant, but the overall response could be more detailed to fully explore the experience of a first-time camper. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'Other than that' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. Some transitions feel abrupt, and the referencing could be smoother. For instance, the jump from discussing wild animals to the challenges of carrying equipment is a bit sudden. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'hiking tracks', 'cooking utensils', and 'sleeping tents'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'suggest you the things should be taken care' (should be 'suggest things you should take care of') and 'stay area' (which is not a standard term). While you attempt to use some descriptive language, such as 'radiant health', it feels slightly unnatural in this context. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'it will be going to a great experience' (incorrect verb tense), 'you do not how to make tent' (missing 'know' and an article), and 'bear can smell' (should be plural 'bears'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing spaces after periods, such as in the first paragraph. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and attention to basic sentence construction.
