Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development of ideas is weak and sometimes confusing. For instance, the advice regarding 'oxygen cylinders' at a 'height' is irrelevant to a standard camping holiday and suggests a misunderstanding of the context. The explanation of why the friend would enjoy camping is vague, stating only that 'adventures is a task of our life.' While the letter covers the required points, the lack of logical development and the inclusion of irrelevant information limit the score. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend, but the content lacks the necessary detail to fully satisfy the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To begin with' and 'As for' are used, but they do not always lead into logical or coherent arguments. The transition between the idea of camping and the mention of oxygen cylinders is abrupt and confusing. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow of ideas is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors, which makes the overall progression feel disjointed rather than smooth.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'share me about' instead of 'share your plans with me' and 'doing adventures is a task of our life.' The student attempts to use some more complex vocabulary, but these attempts often result in unnatural collocations. The range is sufficient to convey the basic message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical control is basic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are frequent issues with verb forms ('As for take care of yourself'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure ('I’m glad you share me about going'). While there is an attempt at complex structures, such as the conditional 'If I were you, I would suggest...', these are often marred by errors in tense or clause construction ('when you will start your trip'). The majority of sentences contain errors, which prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
