Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Rajvi,

I hope you are doing well.

I am writing in response to your message and want to give you some advice for your first camping holiday. Camping holiday allows you to do some adventurous activities, trails ,many group activities and unwind you from your daily routine. . In addition, you have an extrovert personality, therefore I believe you will enjoy this camping the most.

There are some disadvantages of camping. Firstly, wild animals. There are little high chances of facing wild animals in summer, therefore be extra careful, and do not forget to take bear spray with you. Another one is mosquitoes. You may take a net with you to prevent mosquito bites.

In the campaign, if there is any vacant space available, then I would love to join you. We may enjoy together and will have great vacation to memorize.

I look forward to see you and wait to know the availability of camping holiday. Tack care.

Best wishes,

Riya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You explained the benefits of camping, identified potential disadvantages like wildlife and mosquitoes, and expressed your interest in joining your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the mention of 'wild animals' could be expanded with more specific advice or a personal anecdote to make the letter more engaging. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', and 'Another one', which help the reader follow your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing is always clear. For example, the transition between the mention of wild animals and mosquitoes could be smoother to improve the overall cohesion of the paragraph.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'adventurous', 'extrovert', and 'unwind'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'campaign' instead of 'camping trip' and 'memorize' instead of 'create memories'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. Expanding your range to include more natural collocations related to travel and outdoor activities would enhance your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'Camping holiday allows you to do' (should be 'A camping holiday'), 'unwind you from' (should be 'help you unwind'), and 'look forward to see you' (should be 'look forward to seeing you'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of gerunds after specific phrases like 'look forward to'.
