Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Vansh,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to advice you for your camping trip.

I am glad that you took my advice and decided to go on this trip, I can assure you that you would enjoy spending time in nature. Where you will be awya from you mobile and any other distractions, giving you proper time to relex and get a break from your daily hectic routine.I will also suggest that you participate in all the activities on that camping trip like kayaking and learning how to fish, that wiil be good new experince that you will remember foreever.

Though, you might face some difficulties in getting food as cooking won't be a viable option you'll have to mostly get by on snacks.

I hope you enjoy your trip. Most importantly I am looking forward to this summer, when we can go on a camping trip to new brunswick.

Best Regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain why camping is enjoyable, mention the disadvantage of limited food options, and confirm your interest in joining the trip. However, the development of these points is somewhat thin. For instance, the disadvantage regarding food is mentioned briefly without much elaboration. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your ideas with more detail or personal anecdotes. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is generally coherent, and the ideas follow a logical progression. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Though' and 'Most importantly' to link your thoughts. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is contained within one large block, which makes it harder to read. Using clear paragraph breaks for each bullet point would significantly improve the structure and flow of your writing. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'hectic routine', 'viable option', and 'distractions'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'awya' (away), 'relex' (relax), 'wiil' (will), 'experince' (experience), and 'foreever' (forever). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more varied collocations to express your ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'I am writing this letter to advice you' (should be 'advise'), 'Where you will be awya' (a sentence fragment), and 'I will also suggest that you participate... that wiil be good new experince' (a run-on sentence). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently. Increasing your control over basic verb forms and sentence boundaries will help you achieve a higher score.
