Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all three bullet points, but the development is weak and repetitive. The introduction is problematic as it includes meta-commentary about the task itself ('By looking at the given statement...') rather than directly addressing the friend. While you explain why you think he would enjoy it, the reasoning is contradictory, as you later advise him to cancel the trip. The tone is inconsistent with a letter to a friend, feeling more like a summary of the prompt. To improve, focus on maintaining a natural, friendly tone and ensure your arguments are consistent throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks a clear structure. It begins with an unnecessary introduction that repeats the prompt, and the body paragraphs are not clearly separated. There is a lack of cohesive devices; sentences are often linked in a mechanical or repetitive way, such as starting multiple sentences with 'By...'. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of your advice. Using transition words like 'however', 'furthermore', or 'consequently' would help connect your ideas more logically and improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'enjoy a camping holiday' are used multiple times, which reduces the impact of your writing. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'camping is not a safe place' (instead of 'camping can be unsafe') and 'the camping breaks' (which is unclear). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of descriptive adjectives and more precise verbs to convey your thoughts, rather than relying on basic, repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('the camping'), verb tense consistency, and sentence structure. For example, 'He has asked to advice me' should be 'He has asked for my advice'. Many sentences are simple, and there is a lack of complex structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. Focusing on basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will help improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
