Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear friend,

I am writing to you about your holiday plans for this year. As I heard your special camping program this summer I feel over cloud nine. It will be great pleasure for you. Your arrangements and accomodation really pleasant. I think that you will definately enjoy the camping experience.

Having some concrete preparations, there are some challenges that you can face. First of all, rainy season is the main hindrance, for this you have to make some special planning and team work. On the second hand, cooking food beyond the home kitchen is also becoming a target. I want to aware you about these problems so that you might have some possible solutions for this.

I would like to join your company if you agrees. It will be a great opportunity for me to involve in the camping holidays. I will help out you for some particular tasks that you are making for holidays. We will spend some precious time together which is the need to make our friendship strong. It is possible only with you because of some special bonds that I feel for you.

I eagerly wait for your next upcoming response.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and expressing interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, some ideas are slightly underdeveloped. For example, when mentioning the 'rainy season' or 'cooking food,' you could have provided more specific details to make the advice more practical and engaging. The response covers the requirements well, but to reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are more fully extended and provide clearer, more natural advice that directly answers the prompt's requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'First of all' and 'On the second hand,' to signal transitions. However, 'On the second hand' is an incorrect collocation; 'On the other hand' would be more appropriate. Additionally, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this,' 'these') is always precise to avoid ambiguity.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, though there are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices. For example, 'over cloud nine' is a misuse of the idiom 'on cloud nine,' and 'I want to aware you' is grammatically incorrect; 'I want to make you aware' or 'I want to warn you' would be better. Phrases like 'camping program' and 'target' in the context of cooking are slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using collocations correctly and expanding your range of descriptive language to better convey your thoughts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'As I heard your special camping program' (missing 'about'), 'if you agrees' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'I will help out you' (incorrect phrasal verb structure). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and the placement of objects within phrasal verbs. Increasing your control over these basic structures will significantly improve your score.
