Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mandeep,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to you regarding some useful advice and share good experience of summer camping.
I deem that this camping is very interesting for you as there are so many adventure activities that you should do during this camp. Different food and culture you will explore. As well as it is a good time to spend with your friend.
I had that experience before so you should not go out in dark, wear winter clothes and also take some medicine. Owing to there is no medical shop is there. Apart from this, you should also bring some cash.
Infect, in this summer, my friend and I am planning to go Shimla. We already booked the hotel. The interesting part is we decided to go Shimla by our own bikes and stay there atleast ten days.
Hope my advice is useful for you and you enjoy your trip.
Your lovingly,
Teenu Walia.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and stating your availability. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why your friend would enjoy camping is quite brief and lacks specific detail. Furthermore, the final paragraph regarding your own travel plans to Shimla is slightly confusing, as you mention booking a hotel, which contradicts the concept of a 'camping holiday' requested in the prompt. To improve, ensure your ideas are more fully extended and directly relevant to the specific scenario of camping.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this' and 'Infect' (likely intended as 'In fact'). However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. The transition between your advice and your own personal travel plans is abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'adventure activities' and 'culture'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'I deem that this camping is very interesting' (which sounds unnatural) and 'Infect' instead of 'In fact'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more natural collocations and precise vocabulary related to travel and camping, while ensuring that your word choices are appropriate for an informal letter to a friend.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I had that experience before' (should be 'I have had'), 'Owing to there is no medical shop is there' (which is grammatically incorrect), and 'my friend and I am planning' (should be 'are planning'). These errors do not usually impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
