Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sanya,
I Hope you are doing really well. I just saw the letter you sent me the last week. I am happy to know that you are considering to go for a camping holiday in the mountains for your vacations next month. Thank you for inviting me to come with you, I would love to join you in this camping. Engaging in this kind of activity is not about experiencing countless fun moments only but you will also learn the importance to stay closer to the nature. On the other side, I want to suggest to bring a lots of warm clothes with you, it sounds a little weird but even in the summer time mountains are very cold at night time which can get you sick easily. Another thing I want you to be aware of is you need to be very careful with following the directions and maps that you will carry with you because without the internet you can get lost easily. Additionally, I will come to your house in the morning on the day when our trip is commencing.
Best regards
komal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and confirming your attendance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the importance of staying close to nature, this could be expanded with more specific benefits. Similarly, the disadvantages are mentioned briefly. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more descriptive detail or personal reasoning, which would provide a more comprehensive response to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the greeting to the benefits, then the drawbacks, and finally the logistical confirmation. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other side', 'Another thing', and 'Additionally'. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is contained within a single block of text. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks to separate the different topics (e.g., one paragraph for the benefits, one for the advice/disadvantages, and one for the closing). This would make the structure much clearer and more professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'commencing' and 'considering to go'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'experiencing countless fun moments' (which sounds slightly unnatural) and 'the importance to stay closer to the nature' (should be 'the importance of staying close to nature'). The vocabulary is generally functional and allows for clear communication, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'considering to go' should be 'considering going', 'a lots of' is incorrect (should be 'a lot of'), and 'mountains are very cold at night time which can get you sick easily' contains a run-on structure and a slight misuse of 'get you sick'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Pay closer attention to verb patterns and article usage.
