Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Gursewak,
I hope you're doing very well .I'm very exciting and delight to give you an advice on your first summer camping trip with your wife .This is absolutely a best choice to go for camping in Banff . It's a beautiful spot with very pleasant vibe of mountains and barbecue activities. I guess you will enjoy this romantic environment.
However as you have asked for my advice so as a good friend i will warn you from wildlife ,as there could be some bears at night so it is better to be very careful and carry a bear spray for the safety purpose .Interestingly , my vacations are also starting at the same time so i could join you guys with my family and we can make this trip more memorable .As i have previous experience of camping in these areas so i can give you more practical knowledge and helping hand in making your trip joyful .
I hope you like my suggestion and I hope to meet you soon.
Best regards,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing potential disadvantages, and expressing your interest in joining the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention bears as a disadvantage, the explanation could be more detailed to fully explore the challenges of camping. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more descriptive language or personal anecdotes to provide a more comprehensive response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the recommendation to the warnings and finally the offer to join. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'As', which help the flow of ideas. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is contained within two paragraphs, which makes the structure feel a bit cramped. Using more varied linking words and clearer paragraph breaks would improve the overall readability and logical flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'memorable', 'environment', and 'practical knowledge'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I'm very exciting and delight' (should be 'excited and delighted') and 'give you an advice' (advice is uncountable). While these errors do not impede communication, they show a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural-sounding phrases would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'This is absolutely a best choice' (should be 'the best choice') and 'i' (should be capitalized 'I'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and capitalization errors.
