Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Alan,
I am writing you to provide some information regarding the camping trip that you are planning to go for the first time in upcoming summer.
Being a fresher, I would like to say you will feel different experience that you have never had it before. You will get the chance to meet few new people who might be same as you and some of them are experienced from whom you can learn a lot of things. Not only the people you will experience the beauty of nature that you have never seen before although it is quite near to you . You will become more confident as you will do all your work by your own such as cooking, setting up the tent etc.
The negative sides of such camping tour are sometimes you will face the wild animals which are quite dangerous. Not only this sometimes people whom you meet may be thieves so do not blindly trust especially never handover them any valuable things. Always carry first aid kit with you any case of emergency as you are going alone.
I would love to go with you on such an amazing tour but I can not go due to certain unavoidable family reason.
I hope you would love it. Share your when will meet next time.
Yours lovingly,
Shaun

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain the benefits of camping, such as meeting new people and gaining confidence, and you address the disadvantages, specifically mentioning wildlife and safety concerns. You also clearly state that you cannot join the trip due to family reasons. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To improve, you could expand slightly more on the 'why' behind the benefits to provide a more personal touch, as some ideas remain a bit general. Overall, the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. For example, 'Not only this' and 'Not only the people' are used repetitively. Using a wider variety of linking words and phrases, such as 'Furthermore,' 'On the other hand,' or 'Consequently,' would improve the flow and make the transitions between sentences feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'unavoidable,' 'experienced,' and 'emergency.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fresher' (which usually refers to a first-year university student rather than a beginner at camping) and 'handover them' (should be 'hand them over'). The phrase 'camping tour' is also slightly unnatural; 'camping trip' is more idiomatic. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations related to outdoor activities would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing you to provide' (should be 'writing to you'), 'that you have never had it before' (the 'it' is redundant), and 'same as you' (should be 'like you'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with commas. To reach a higher band, focus on reducing these minor errors and ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage, as these errors currently occur frequently enough to be noticeable.
