Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Erin,
I hope you doing well, I received your letter yesterday in your letter you were asking me for advice regarding camping destination for this summer .
I am happy that you are going for camping for the first time in your life and i am sure that it will be a wonderful experience of yours.
As i know several places for camping and i have been to numerous places for camping with my colleagues and my friends as well as family members one of the best place that i have ever been for camping is Algonquin national park in Ottawa, Ontario which is near to the International airport of Ottawa around 200kms.
The place has several facilities it is perfect with friends as well as family it has cycling , kayaking , boating , swimming and Barbeque facilities on the top of that you can also do born fire and music night with the people However, it has one disadvantage is that this place is located in the rural area which has many animals and insects so you guys should have to be aware from insects and animals if they bite you then it will be hazardous for your life one camping makes your life experience worst for that you have to take some safety equipment that will make your life easy there.
unfortunately, I will be busy for the rest of the summer i have been occupied by the international clients and projects so , I will not be able to join you but next time we will go together for sure .
Have a safe and wonderful journey, when you come back write me a letter that how is your experience there.
Yours lovingly,
Hm

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why camping is enjoyable, identified potential disadvantages (wildlife and insects), and clearly stated that you cannot join your friend. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. The advice regarding the specific location is helpful, but the explanation of the disadvantages is slightly repetitive and could be more concise. To improve, ensure that your ideas are fully developed without unnecessary repetition, and maintain a consistent tone throughout the letter. Overall, the response is relevant and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'unfortunately', to transition between points. However, some sentences are quite long and run-on, such as the third paragraph, which lacks proper punctuation to separate distinct ideas. This makes the flow feel a bit mechanical at times. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences are clearly demarcated with appropriate punctuation to improve the overall flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'hazardous', 'numerous', and 'facilities'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'born fire' (should be 'bonfire') and 'worst' instead of 'worse'. Additionally, some phrasing is a bit simplistic. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of common terms. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and idiomatic expressions would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, there are several run-on sentences where clauses are joined incorrectly without proper conjunctions or full stops (e.g., 'I hope you doing well, I received your letter...'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. Focusing on sentence boundaries and basic grammatical accuracy will significantly improve your writing.
