Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Natasha,
I am writing to let you know about the holiday camping you are planning this summer. As, I have a location in my mind to suggest you and you will definitely enjoy this camping.
Let me tell you this place is Dream World located in Karachi, where many people specially come here for night stays camp and bonfire. However, there are some disadvantages, one is that people cannot spend time for more than two days. Also, there is limited food in this resort available, so people cannot take extra meals.
Nowadays, I am quite busy due to my hectic study and work schedule. I really would like to join in next time as due to certain reasons, I am unable to join you this summer, but probably next time for sure.
I hope this helps, please let me know if you want any further advice.
Your friend,
Kashish

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and stating your availability. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For example, you mention that your friend would 'definitely enjoy' the trip, but you do not explain why camping specifically appeals to them or what benefits it offers. Similarly, the disadvantages regarding the duration and food are mentioned but not elaborated upon. To improve, you should provide more descriptive details or personal anecdotes to flesh out your points, which would help you reach a higher band score by fully developing your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Also', and 'Nowadays' to transition between ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. For instance, the opening sentence is a bit disjointed, and the connection between your busy schedule and the inability to join the trip could be smoother. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows naturally into the next, rather than relying on simple sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'resort', 'bonfire', and 'hectic'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'holiday camping you are planning' (which should be 'camping holiday') and 'take extra meals' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of descriptive adjectives to make your writing more engaging and natural for a letter to a friend.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'As, I have a location in my mind to suggest you' contains an unnecessary comma and an awkward structure. Additionally, 'I really would like to join in next time as due to certain reasons' is a bit repetitive and grammatically clunky. To improve, focus on sentence construction and punctuation. Ensure that your complex sentences are formed correctly and try to proofread for minor errors in word order and preposition usage.
