Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear love,

I hope you're doing well.

I am writing this email with excitement for camping holiday. You can enjoy being outdoors and close to nature. You must feel beautiful scenery such as forests, mountains, lakes and beaches. Also it will good chance to stay relax and enjoy peace compared with a busy city. You can also do fun activities : hiking, fishing and cycling.

However, there are some disadvantages of a camping holiday. Firstly, may be weather can be unpredictable, rain, wind or cold. Sometimes you will find some insects such as mosquitoes. There is limited access to bathrooms and showers as well cooking and cleaning can be inconvenient.

I feel very excited if i would get a chance to go with you because I would love to experience camping together. It would be more fun and a good chance to make memories.

I hope my advice helps you make your decision. Let me know what you decide.

Best wishes,

Manvi

Grammatical Range and Accuracy6.0
Overall6.5

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain why your friend would enjoy camping, list relevant disadvantages such as unpredictable weather and limited facilities, and state your interest in joining them. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'why'—for example, by mentioning a specific shared interest or a particular location you have visited before. The ideas are relevant and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the bullet points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'However', and 'Firstly' to transition between ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To improve, you could use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the sentences within paragraphs are more tightly connected. For instance, the transition between discussing scenery and activities could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, such as 'unpredictable', 'inconvenient', and 'scenery'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'stay relax' (should be 'stay relaxed') and 'must feel beautiful scenery' (should be 'experience' or 'enjoy'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions that would elevate the response to a higher band. The word choice is generally functional and fits the context of a friendly letter well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing this email with excitement for camping holiday' (missing an article) and 'may be weather can be' (incorrect word order). Additionally, 'it will good chance' is missing a verb. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the reader can easily understand your points. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help improve your score in this criterion.
