Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Prabh ,

I hope you are doing great. It is good to hear from you that your are plannig to go on a camping trip.

I personally feel that, it is going to be a good opportunity for you to interact with nature and environmet, as you are a biophile. You will get to know about different specices of plants and animals in there natural habitat. Since you are an athlele it will test your physical strength and endurance as well.

Just be careful about few things as in forects there will be abundance of mosquitoes and flies , so make sure to pack mosqutio repleient spray . And one thing more, be careful on going deep inside the forest because of wild animals.

I would have joined you in this adventurous and exciting trip but i have already planned my summer vacation with my cousin to manali. i hope you understand andwish all the best for your camping .

Your friendly,

Ranjodh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing potential disadvantages, and stating your availability for the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why'—for example, by elaborating on the mental health benefits of disconnecting from technology, rather than just mentioning nature. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the initial greeting to the specific points requested and finally to the closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different ideas, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited; you rely heavily on simple transitions like 'And one thing more'. Using a wider variety of linking words or phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', 'Consequently') would improve the flow and make the connections between your ideas more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'biophile', 'endurance', and 'natural habitat' correctly. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'plannig', 'environmet', 'specices', 'athlele', 'forects', 'mosqutio', and 'repleient'. While these do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading your work for common spelling mistakes will significantly improve your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'your are plannig' (you are planning), 'in there natural habitat' (in their), and 'be careful on going' (be careful about going). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as the space before the comma in 'feel that, it is'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not cause confusion for the reader. Increasing your control over basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help you achieve a higher band.
