Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Reggie,
It is great to know that you're intending to go for a camping holiday in the coming summer, and also thank you for taking me into confidence for some advice. I think you should take the opportunity and make it this summer.
I think that you should go for a camping holiday because from my past camping experience, I can say that you'll quite enjoy it. After all, this camping holiday will offer you the opportunity to take a long walk in the wilderness and observe nature in its true habitat. You can also go to a nearby lake for fishing or swimming which you have always wanted to do. But, the best thing about this camping holiday will be that it'll actually improve your mood and rejuvenate you like nothing else. Books & Literature
Having said that, there are some disadvantages of such camping holiday as well, such as sharing bathrooms with other people at the campsite, bad weather, and dealing with bug bites and dangerous animals.
Anyway, I also would have loved to go camping with you this summer, but since my cousin is visiting me from abroad this summer, I'll have to give up on that idea.
Take care and stay fine.
Warm wishes,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping, listed relevant disadvantages, and clearly stated your inability to join them. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are well-developed. However, there is an irrelevant phrase 'Books & Literature' inserted in the middle of the second paragraph, which is a minor distraction. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Having said that' and 'Anyway' to transition between ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. The flow of information is smooth, and the relationship between ideas is easy to follow. The inclusion of the stray phrase 'Books & Literature' slightly disrupts the flow, but otherwise, the structure is sound.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'take the opportunity', 'wilderness', and 'rejuvenate' are used accurately. There is some repetition of the word 'camping holiday', which could be improved by using synonyms or pronouns. While the vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, it lacks the 'less common' items that would push the score into the higher bands. The error 'Books & Literature' appears to be a copy-paste or formatting mistake rather than a lexical error, but it should be avoided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free and easy to understand. There are minor issues, such as 'thank you for taking me into confidence for some advice', which is slightly unnatural phrasing; 'asking for my advice' would be more standard. Additionally, 'stay fine' at the end is not a common idiomatic closing. However, these errors do not impede communication. Your control over punctuation and tense usage is generally good throughout the letter.
