Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Kate,
I hope you are doing well. I am glad that you would like to go for camping first time this summer and asked my advice about it.
I t is a great idea to spend your summer holidays while camping because it will give you chance of new adventure. Moreover, you will find it quite interesting to stay in tents, and will learn how to manage your necessities with limited sources.
It is really a fantastic experience. However it also have some possible difficulties that you should prepare before to tackle them. First and foremost is weather conditions that are unpredictable. So you should carry proper clothing and required items with you. Another thing is carry a map with you because in that areas there is not good networking conditions even try to stay with your group most of the time.
I would also like to join you in this camping as we can spend our holidays together and it will be more fun. Tell me your planning about it and I will look forward for your response.
Take care,
Shabnam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why camping is enjoyable, identified potential disadvantages like unpredictable weather and poor connectivity, and clearly stated your interest in joining your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why'—for example, by describing the specific benefits of being in nature or the sense of freedom it provides. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'First and foremost' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the advice on weather and the advice on maps could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs feels more natural rather than just a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'unpredictable weather conditions' and 'tackle them' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'limited sources' (which should be 'limited resources') and 'in that areas' (which should be 'in those areas'). While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, it is somewhat basic. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise or descriptive language, such as 'unforeseen challenges' instead of 'difficulties' or 'remote locations' instead of 'that areas'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'go for camping first time' (should be 'go camping for the first time') and 'it also have some' (should be 'it also has some'). Additionally, there are some minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'carry a map' (should be 'carry a map' or 'carry maps') and 'in that areas'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
