Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Naren,
I hope you're doing well. It's been a while since we last spoke. I'm elated to know that you are interested in going on a camping trip for this summer vacation. I'm writing to give you advice on how to select a proper campsite and the required essentials.
Firstly, I'm so sure that you will enjoy this camping holiday because you're very much into nature and scenic spots. Additionally, you would like the cooking experience in the campsite as it gives you the old-school cooking vibe while cooking on the wooden blocks in the firepits.
Although you feel the nature and capture the scenic views, there are some possible challenges that you will come across. One of the possible drawbacks is, you encounter various insects such as flies, mosquitoes and bugs which would create a significant inconvenience and discomfort.
Finally, I would like to join you for this summer trip as it's your first experience, I'm excited to help you in setting up the tent and guiding you throughout the trip. Simultaneously, I will also get a chance to spend some quality time with you.
Let me know your thoughts and let's catch up for dinner over the weekend to discuss further.
Best regards,
Raj kumar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping, identified specific disadvantages like insects, and clearly stated your willingness to join the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why'—for example, by contrasting the stress of city life with the tranquility of nature—to provide more depth to your ideas. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Although', and 'Finally' to guide the reader through your arguments. While these are effective, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices further and ensure that the links between sentences feel more natural rather than relying on standard list-like connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'elated', 'scenic spots', and 'significant inconvenience'. The language is generally natural and appropriate for an informal letter. However, there are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'wooden blocks in the firepits' (which sounds slightly unnatural; 'logs' or 'firewood' would be better) and 'feel the nature' (which should be 'experience nature'). Expanding your use of more precise collocations would help elevate your score to the next level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as the comma splice in the final paragraph ('...first experience, I'm excited...') and the slightly awkward phrasing in 'Although you feel the nature'. However, these errors do not impede communication. Your control over punctuation and sentence structure is generally good, and you show an ability to use complex sentences to convey your thoughts. Focusing on eliminating minor punctuation errors and refining sentence connectors will improve your accuracy.
