Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ram,
Hope you are doing well. I heard a news from your mom, she told me you are planning to go for camping in this coming summer that would be a great decision finally you made it. The best place for the summer camps is Manning park which is in the British Columbia. This would be your first time, so you should bring a pair of good quality of shoes as well you can carry clothes and some frozen food. Most of the summer time there would be a raining in the mountains do not forgot to carry umbrella.
But be careful specially at night because it is a part of jungle and there are number of animal species atleast you can lug stick, spray and horn for make a noise better is to go with a group. Sometime in the hilly areas people slips from the top of the mountain so better to carry a hard type of rope.
I am going to apply holiday in the summer time, if my manager will approve it, definitely i will join in the coming summer. So we will enjoy together a camping site.
Your friend
Ram

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining why the friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and confirming interest in joining. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of why the friend would enjoy it is limited to suggesting a location rather than describing the benefits of the experience itself. The advice regarding disadvantages is slightly confusing, as the focus shifts to safety hazards like 'slipping from the top of the mountain' and 'animal species,' which are more specific warnings than general camping disadvantages. To improve, you should expand on the positive aspects of camping, such as the relaxation or connection with nature, and provide more balanced, realistic disadvantages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into three distinct paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, such as the jump from suggesting clothes to mentioning rain. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the advice about 'stick, spray and horn' lacks a smooth introduction. Improving the flow by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'on the other hand,' 'consequently') would help the ideas connect more logically and improve the overall readability of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'I heard a news from your mom' (should be 'I heard news from your mom') and 'lug stick' (which is not a standard collocation). The word choice is generally simple, and there are some errors in word formation, such as 'a raining' instead of 'rain'. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more natural collocations and a wider range of descriptive language to convey your advice more effectively and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'that would be a great decision finally you made it' (a run-on sentence), 'do not forgot to carry' (incorrect verb form), and 'if my manager will approve it' (incorrect conditional structure). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods in several places. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
