Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear shiv,

i got your message regarding a summer camp and I am so excited that you are thinking about going for a summer holiday.

I understand that you have always been excited to explore but due to some reason you were never able to attend any camp. I am extremely excited for you as this will be your first time experience of a summer camp and I can definitely say that you will enjoy it a lot. There is one drawback that it is summer season but the place that you will visit experiences rain in this month and some of the adventures will not be possible for you to explore. There will be chances of insect bites as well. You will need to prepare yourself in every aspect of the trip. Even I am planning to visit this place for second time with my friends but we will be visiting in June as we want to stay for few weeks there.

I would love to hear your first time experience when you will be back from the trip.

Regards,

Pan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and stating your availability to join. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the 'summer season' and 'rain' as disadvantages, you could have elaborated more on how these factors specifically impact the camping experience. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more descriptive detail or personal anecdotes to fully develop the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the initial excitement to the advice and finally the closing. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is contained within a single block of text. Using clear paragraph breaks to separate the different points (the benefits, the drawbacks, and your personal plans) would significantly improve the readability and structure. Additionally, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. While the flow is generally easy to follow, more varied linking words or phrases would help connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'adventures' and 'insect bites.' However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are instances where word choice could be more precise, such as 'first time experience' (which is redundant) or 'visit this place for second time' (which lacks an article). To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of descriptive adjectives and more natural collocations to express your thoughts with greater sophistication and precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as missing articles ('for second time', 'in summer season'), punctuation issues, and minor errors in verb tense or agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic articles and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve the accuracy of your writing significantly.
