Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Samarth,

Hey! How have you been? I hope you're doing well. I want to share my advice that you have asked from me related to camping site that you're planning this summer for the first time.

From my perspective, you should visit Muskok to enjoy your first summer camping holiday as it has two benefits attached with it. Firstly, on the basis of our talk you already mentioned that you are going with your university friend's so it would definitely become a thrill and fun adventure as you can enjoy storytelling besides the woodfire at night. Secondly, you can enjoy stargazing at night as well as you can click some jaw drop pictures.

Also, out of all this benefits don't forget to take the skin moisturizer with you because at the night time, mosquitoes will make your life hell if you don't apply it into your skin. I was on the clouds nine when you asked me to join. Unfortunately, I am going to give my final presentation this 29th august and due to this reason I can't able to join you in this camping.

But, next time we will surely enjoy such places together. Till then enjoy your first summer camping holiday. Hope to hear from you soon.

With warm wishes,

Keertan Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping, identified a specific disadvantage (mosquitoes), and clearly stated that you cannot join the trip due to a presentation. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are relevant and well-developed. To reach a higher band, ensure that your advice is slightly more detailed; for example, you could have elaborated on the 'disadvantages' by mentioning the lack of modern facilities or the unpredictability of weather, which would provide a more comprehensive response to the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Also' to guide the reader through your points. However, the transition between the advice and the personal update about your presentation is slightly abrupt. To improve, try using more sophisticated linking phrases to connect your ideas, such as 'Moving on to the potential downsides' or 'Regarding your invitation to join you'. Paragraphing is used correctly, which helps the reader follow the structure of your letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using phrases like 'stargazing', 'jaw drop pictures', and 'thrill and fun adventure'. However, there are some inaccuracies in collocation and idiomatic usage. For instance, 'on the clouds nine' should be 'on cloud nine', and 'apply it into your skin' is better phrased as 'apply it to your skin'. Additionally, 'jaw drop' should be 'jaw-dropping'. While these errors do not impede communication, refining your use of idioms and collocations will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'I can't able to join' (should be 'I am unable to join' or 'I cannot join') and 'university friend's' (should be 'university friends'). Additionally, there are minor errors with prepositions and articles, such as 'related to camping site' (should be 'the camping site'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and modal verb usage will improve your accuracy.
