Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Bhavin,
It's been ages since we last met. I hope you're doing well also am glad that you asked for an advice regarding a camping holiday.
Last year, when I went to Algonquin National Park for camping, I was amused by the spectacular views over there, and it was fun. I'm pretty sure that, you will also have a wonderful experience over there as you like being connected to nature. It will also help you to unwind from your day-to-day workload.
Advantages are numerous, however you shouldn't ignore the cons of camping because sometimes forest could be so dangerous due to wild animals, especially at night. I would like to recommend that you should build a campfire, so that wild animals can be kept away and you feel safe.
You know what, this summer, I'm also going to take a week off from my work place. If you're not hesitant to invite me, I can join you guys. It would be an excellent adventure for both of us and we'll also get a time to meet each other and spend quality time together.
Let me know the perfect dates, so I can do shopping accordingly.
Best regards,
Nidhi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping by referencing your own positive experience and the benefits of nature. You also identified potential disadvantages, specifically the danger of wild animals, and clearly stated your interest in joining the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail regarding the specific 'disadvantages' beyond just wild animals, such as the lack of modern amenities or unpredictable weather, to further develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however', 'especially', and 'if', which help link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. For instance, the transition between the advantages and disadvantages could be smoother to create a more natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using phrases like 'spectacular views', 'unwind from your day-to-day workload', and 'quality time'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'asked for an advice' (advice is uncountable) and 'do shopping' (usually just 'do the shopping' or 'go shopping'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would characterize a higher band score. Focusing on collocations and the correct usage of uncountable nouns will help improve your precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences ('If you're not hesitant...'). There are some grammatical slips, such as 'also am glad' (missing subject 'I') and 'forest could be so dangerous' (missing article 'the'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary comma in 'I'm pretty sure that, you will'. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
