Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Priya,

I hope you enjoy your summer holidays as you are keen to go for camping from last two years. Moreover, I am writing to tell you about my experience for camp sight that I visit last year with my family.

I know you are going for very first time but believe me its thrilling as well as most enjoyable part of camping you find it quick challenging first after knowing some trick you find it very easy and I know you are fit enough to tackle all. I think it is going to be memorable experience for you as you going with your family.

Furthermore, you need to be a alert at all the time as mostly camp sites are in forest area so there is a chance of wild animals comes closer to the site also sometimes weather is also being dramatic in some areas. However, be prepare your self for that.

I really wish we all friends go to the trekking camp next summer, as you plan this year wont be possible for us to go. Anyway, had a great holiday time and I miss you lot come to see me please.

Yours Faithfully,

Kaira Boss

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the benefits of camping, the disadvantages, and the invitation to join a future trip. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the friend would enjoy camping is quite general, and the description of disadvantages lacks specific detail, relying on vague mentions of 'wild animals' and 'dramatic weather'. While the tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, the content could be more fully extended to reach a higher band. The closing is slightly confusing as it mentions a 'trekking camp' which was not previously introduced, creating a slight disconnect in the narrative flow.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'However'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the transition 'Moreover, I am writing to tell you...' in the opening. Additionally, some sentences are poorly linked, making the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better sentence integration.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'keen to go for camping', 'camp sight', and 'dramatic weather'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations, for example, 'be a alert at all the time' and 'be prepare your self'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of errors in word formation and collocation limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('I visit last year'), missing articles ('for very first time'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('there is a chance of wild animals comes closer'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and sentence boundaries. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and demonstrate a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
