Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Tarlok,

I am writing to you to suggest some places and the problems that you might face while camping in summer.

According to me , the summer season is the best time of the year to visit any place. Because, the days are open and sunny. Which are good for exploring the areas . Now, you will see nature and some animals that migrate in the winter. In my last summer vacation, I visited the mountain village with my family. I chose this place due to the good views of the mountains and wildlife. Moreover, the accommodation is not too expensive. So, I suggest it you .

Although there are some disadvantages , such as the temperature might be higher in this summer. So you have to take some precautions to save you from heating. The accommodation is cheap , but

you do not receive many facilities like in some hotels.

This summer i am so busy so i am unable to come with you because I am planning to shift to my new house. So,we will go another time together. I hope you will enjoy your camping.

Best Wishes,

Kiran Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mention disadvantages like heat and lack of facilities, and clearly state that you cannot join them. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why your friend would enjoy camping is quite brief and relies on a personal anecdote rather than focusing on the general appeal of camping for a first-timer. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more descriptive detail or specific examples that directly relate to the friend's situation. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'So' to connect your sentences. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by short, choppy sentences, such as 'Because, the days are open and sunny. Which are good for exploring the areas.' These fragments should be joined to the main clause to improve the flow. Additionally, the use of referencing could be more precise to ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'accommodation', 'precautions', and 'migrate'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'days are open' instead of 'days are long' or 'clear'. You also have some minor errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'save you from heating' instead of 'protect you from the heat'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or precise collocations would help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you are able to communicate your meaning, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with sentence boundaries, articles, and prepositions. For example, 'I suggest it you' should be 'I suggest it to you', and 'in this summer' should simply be 'this summer'. There are also issues with punctuation, such as unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
