Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Maria,

I hope that you're in the pink of health! I'm so excited to know that you have planned a camping holiday and I'm sure that you will love this experience. Since you're a nature-loving person, staying in a tent at a location near a lake or forest would make your vacation unforgettable.

However, you should prepare yourself to encounter some possible difficulties while you're spending your vacation at a camp ground. Firstly, tents don't offer the same kind of comfort and security as a hotel or Airbnb. The fear of unprotected accommodation can distrub your sleep considerably. Moreover, don't forget to bring a bug spray with you as there might be some insects like mosquitoes that can make it difficult for you to spend a peaceful night.

Even though a camping holiday could be challenging at first, it is a unique experience that every body should enjoy atleast once in their life. So, if you don't mind, I'd like to join you during your adventurous trip. Let me know if you can accommodate my last-minute request.

I can't wait to create more memories with you this summer.

Yours truly,

Jashan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter fully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain why your friend would enjoy camping, provide relevant disadvantages such as lack of comfort and insects, and express your interest in joining the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and enthusiastic register throughout. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. You have successfully covered all requirements of the task in a natural and engaging manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is well-organized with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, and the transition between ideas is smooth. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Even though' effectively to link your thoughts. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow. The letter flows naturally from the introduction to the conclusion, demonstrating a good command of organizational features.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including idiomatic expressions like 'in the pink of health' and descriptive phrases such as 'nature-loving person' and 'adventurous trip'. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'distrub' instead of 'disturb' and 'atleast' which should be two words ('at least'). However, these do not impede communication. The vocabulary is generally well-chosen and fits the context of a friendly letter, showing a good level of flexibility and precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

You use a variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences, which are generally accurate. For example, 'Since you're a nature-loving person, staying in a tent... would make your vacation unforgettable' is a well-constructed complex sentence. There are very few errors, such as 'every body' which should be one word ('everybody'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and grammar is strong. The grammatical range is sufficient to convey your message clearly and naturally.
