Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Maria,

I hope that you're in the pink of health! I'm so excited to know that you have planned a camping holiday and I'm sure that you will love this experience. Since you're a nature-loving person, staying in a tent at a location near a lake or forest would make your vacation unforgettable.

However, you should prepare yourself to encounter some possible difficulties while you're spending your vacation at a campground. Firstly, tents don't offer the same kind of comfort and security as a hotel or Airbnb. The fear of unprotected accommodation can distrub your sleep. Moreover, don't forget to bring bug spray with you as insects like mosquitoes can make it difficult for you to spend a peaceful night.

Even though a camping holiday could be challenging at first, it is an unique experience that everybody should enjoy at least once in their life. So, if you don't mind, I'd love to join you during your adventurous trip. Let me know if you can accommodate my last-minute request.

I can't wait to create more memories with you this summer.

Yours truly,

Jashan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain why your friend would enjoy camping, identify relevant disadvantages such as lack of comfort and insects, and express a clear desire to join the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a first-time camping experience. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a suitable closing. You use cohesive devices effectively, such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Even though', to link your ideas smoothly. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the overall structure is coherent and well-managed.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including idiomatic expressions like 'in the pink of health' and descriptive phrases such as 'nature-loving person' and 'adventurous trip'. There is a minor spelling error ('distrub' instead of 'disturb') and a slight collocation error ('an unique' should be 'a unique'), but these do not impede communication. The vocabulary is generally natural and appropriate for the informal tone of the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. The grammar is generally accurate, with only minor slips such as the article error 'an unique'. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and verb tenses is strong. The letter flows well, and the grammatical structures used are sufficient to convey your message clearly and naturally.
