Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sana,

I hope you are doing splendidly. I remember about your debut camping holidays in this summer. I am so excited for you. Camping holidays with friends are one of the best entertainment. I believe it will be a memorable trip for you and your friends

On the other hand, please don't forget to take some salt with you, there might me some leaches in the camping area. In addition, make sure you all have the first aid box as well as an umbrella and torch for your safety. Moreover, follow the rules of the camping area and take necessary precautions.

However, thank you for inviting me for the camping holidays. As I am having my final exams on those days I won't be able to take part in the camping holidays. We will plan something after my examination. I wish you a happy and safe journey as well as holidays.

I can't wait to hear from you

Yours Lovingly

Neethu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the task. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mention potential disadvantages like leeches and the need for safety gear, and clearly state that you cannot join due to exams. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, explaining why your friend would enjoy camping could be expanded with more descriptive language regarding the experience of nature. Overall, the response is relevant and addresses the prompt effectively, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'In addition', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the first and second paragraph is slightly abrupt, and some of the cohesive devices feel a bit mechanical. The logical progression is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using more varied linking phrases to connect the sentences within the paragraphs more naturally. The structure is sufficient for a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a range of vocabulary that is adequate for the task, such as 'splendidly', 'precautions', and 'memorable'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'debut camping holidays' (should be 'first camping holiday') and 'leaches' (spelling error: 'leeches'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the control is not always consistent. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Therefore, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I remember about your debut' (unnecessary preposition), 'there might me some' (typo: 'be'), and 'camping holidays' (often used in the plural when singular is more natural). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some missing commas. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. The current level of accuracy and range fits the Band 6.0 descriptor.
