Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Juned,

I am writing to provide an advice you asked me for the fist time camping holiday this summer.

Fistly, I would suggest you to go Blue Mountain for camping as I know you likes the rocks and mountain which will give you the pleasure of climbing and the breathtaking views of mountains while camping on table land at the top.

Secondly, one negative point to consider is that the safety and security of yourselft and other people because while camping you will often encounter the wildlife. Make sure to keep some safety spray and lights with you.

Lastly, if you are planning to go after 15th May, I would also like to join you on your trip. Its been a long time we have not went on trip or camping so it would be another level fo experiance for both of us.

Let me know what are your thoughts on this. Hope to hear back from you.

Regards,

Farhan Khan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing potential disadvantages, and expressing your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention wildlife as a disadvantage, you could have expanded on this by explaining how it might disrupt sleep or cause anxiety. To improve, try to provide more depth to your explanations to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' requirement of higher band descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing for each point. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence structure that make the progression feel slightly disjointed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences connect more naturally to one another rather than relying on a list-like structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary such as 'breathtaking views', 'wildlife', and 'safety spray'. However, there are several spelling errors ('fist' instead of 'first', 'yourselft' instead of 'yourself', 'experiance' instead of 'experience') and some awkward phrasing ('another level fo experiance'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit your score. Focus on proofreading your work to catch these common spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully convey your meaning, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'provide an advice' (should be 'provide some advice'), 'you likes the rocks' (should be 'you like the rocks'), and 'we have not went' (should be 'we have not gone'). These errors are noticeable and occur in basic structures. To improve, review subject-verb agreement and the correct use of past participles after auxiliary verbs.
