Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Rohit,

Hello, how're you? I'm pleased to hear that you're planning to go on a camping holiday in coming summer and asked for my advice.

I'm sure that you'd enjoy a camping holiday because it'd provide you different experience. As you can stay wherever you want in the open air and also can enjoy the nature.

Even though a camping holiday can be quite interesting, it's not without drawbacks. During camping, staying outside is not free from risks as if there is any unexpected change in the weather then it can be difficult to stay under the tent.

I also willing to go with you, unfortunately I couldn't this time because in the summer, I'm going outside the country for training that is already scheduled and couldn't be postponed. This training is extremely essential for my career growth. Next time, I'd definitely love to join your company.

I hope you have a wonderful experience and don't forget to share pictures with me. See you soon.

Love,

Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly explain the appeal of camping, identify a relevant disadvantage regarding weather, and provide a polite, logical reason for declining the invitation. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'why' behind your friend's enjoyment—for example, by mentioning the benefits of disconnecting from technology or the joy of campfire cooking—to provide more depth to your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing that separates the different requirements of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Even though', 'I also', and 'unfortunately' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'This training') clearly connects back to the previous sentence. The overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, which is a key strength of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task. Phrases like 'unexpected change in the weather' and 'career growth' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and repetitive phrasing, such as 'I also willing to go' (should be 'I am also willing') and 'join your company' (which is slightly unnatural in this context; 'join you' is better). To improve, try to incorporate more idiomatic expressions or collocations suitable for informal correspondence, such as 'roughing it' or 'a breath of fresh air'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I'm going outside the country' (better: 'going abroad'), 'I also willing to go' (missing verb 'am'), and 'in coming summer' (needs an article: 'in the coming summer'). Additionally, 'couldn't this time' is slightly awkward; 'cannot this time' or 'will not be able to' would be more accurate. You have a good grasp of basic grammar, but more attention to verb forms and articles would enhance your accuracy.
